Being a Freelance Website Designer, I wear many hats. I’m the billing department, the design department, the customer service department, the tech support department, and any other department that has to be created on a whim in order to provide my clients with what they need. It means 12-15 hour days, and sometimes working till odd hours in the morning. I say this a lot in my blog posts, but being a freelance ANYTHING requires a special breed of people. To make a commitment to work on your own, and for-go a steady paycheck for the opportunity to do what you love on your own terms, is priceless, honorable, and something every freelancer should be proud of.
I’ve been a website designer for so long that I’ve seen many others take the plunge into working for themselves, and I’ve seen many decide it’s not for them.. but usually when they leave, they always come back. It’s not just a way to pay bills, If you choose to work on your own, its because you believe strongly in what you do, and love the risk of doing it.
Some people climb mountains, some people jump off bridges with only a bungee chord.. Other’s, like the full time freelancers of the world go into business for themselves and throw away the comfort of knowing when and how much they’ll get paid.
So, no, you wont see my climbing any mountains or jumping off any bridges for my adrenaline rush. I’ll be taking chances at keeping my lights on, because this is what I love to do. This is my rush.

It’s coming around to that time of the year when work is slim pickings. Oh the joys of the holidays for a
I came across a really good article on how to feng shui my office.. Needless to say, I actually feel a little better..sure, no projects were started today, BUT i have a sense of ‘ready to work’… Being a work from home
Can you believe it’s been 10 years? It’s insane that it’s been so long. I made sure to pay a visit to my mom and just took it easy. Everyone who suffered more than the average citizen was in my thoughts.
It’s about time for this post. One of my aunts asked me if i’m still “not” smoking, so it brought it up. And its time for a new blog post, so why not.
It’s no surprise that I move a lot.. My clients know it. It’s not an instability thing, its more of a “not sure where i want to park my a$$” thing..lol. I came to Arizona because there wasn’t much work for my girlfriend where i was previously, in Big Bear California, and although I can work anywhere and LOVED to look out my window while i was working and see the awesomeness that was Big Bear, I didn’t want to be that person that didn’t compromise. So we packed up and moved to Arizona, and here I am, Unhappy, with foreign allergies that I’ve never had to deal with before in my life.

Time to leaven the comforts of my office desk chair, and venture out into the 110 degree weather of Arizona. I’d love to bbq but because we’re in Arizona in 11o degree weather my apartment complex won’t allow us to have bbq’s.. i even asked if i could bring a george forman out on my balcony and ‘fake bbq’.. that was a negative on that idea also. Arizona, not my favorite place right now, ya’ll are cuttin into my bbq time and it’s not welcome… not welcome.
You would think that by now, ANY downtime i have would be welcomed with open arms, but sadly that’s not how us freelancers function. To us, every second of downtime is another bill that MIGHT NOT be paid on time! It’s panic! It’s heart racing, cold sweat, O.M.G.W.T.F, all out pandemonium. So in order for me to stay sane i do quite a few things to take my mind of the possibility of not having any work come my way.
